If your system is located in Maryland, here are a few things to note:
Some Maryland systems interconnected on or after July 1, 2024 may qualify for higher-value Certified RECs under the Brighter Tomorrow Act.
To register your Maryland system for SRECs,
We need your interconnection document — specifically the final approval (COC Part 2) from your utility. Interconnection Documents explains what that is and how to get it.
If your system qualifies for Maryland's Brighter Tomorrow program (see below) and is 20 kW AC or larger, we'll also need a final building permit (this is not the same as your plan set).
If your system is owned by a company rather than an individual, we'll also need a Certificate of Good Standing for that company.
What Maryland's Brighter Tomorrow program is
Brighter Tomorrow is a Maryland program that lets qualifying solar systems earn Certified RECs. Certified RECs are worth more than standard Maryland SRECs, at 1.5 times the compliance value.
You don't have to worry about applying for it. We check whether your system qualifies and pursue the certification for you if it does.
Whether your Maryland system qualifies for Brighter Tomorrow
The core requirement is your system's interconnection date — the date your utility approved your system to operate. Maryland systems interconnected on or after July 1, 2024 likely qualify.
The Brighter Tomorrow registration fee
Brighter Tomorrow certification carries a Maryland Public Service Commission registration fee:
$50 for systems under 20 kW AC
$200 for systems 20 kW AC and above
We pay this fee for you and deduct it from your REC payment, so you never pay the Commission directly. If you already paid it yourself with your original registration, we don't charge it again. This fee is specific to Brighter Tomorrow — it isn't a general Maryland registration charge.
If the Maryland Public Service Commission emails you directly
You can disregard emails that come to you directly from the Maryland Public Service Commission about your SREC registration. We receive the same notices and handle them, and we'll contact you if something is genuinely needed from you.
